Support Max's Gender-Affirming Surgery!

Hi, my name is Max, and I'm asking for help from my family, friends, and community as I navigate gender-affirming surgery. After dreaming of this for years, my top surgery (double mastectomy) and hysterectomy is scheduled for October 14, 2024, with Dr. Michelle De Souza and Dr. Meredith Gray from the University of Kansas. I am beyond excited to take this next step, especially prior to the uncertainty of November!

A little about me - I'm a Transportation Safety Planner in the public sector. I'm the proud parent of one chihuahua dachshund mutt (Fuzzy) and two cats (Gertrude and Ollie). When not at karaoke or the Farmers Market, you can find me trying to replace my lawn with native plants or connecting with other queer/trans folks in Lawrence, KS.

The financial assistance I'm asking for is to help with the cost of surgery, at least two weeks of partially unpaid leave from work, transportation to and from medical appointments, meals and grocery delivery, personal care, and pet care. My healing will take approximately six weeks. My incredible community will care for me during this time, but it's also important to me to be able to compensate people for their time.

Recovering from surgery is a daunting challenge, and it is hard to ask for help. Top surgery will improve my life in so many ways. I will be able to walk in the world, shoulders back.
