Our family recently received some news that will significantly change our lives forever; our 5 year old daughter, Maxine, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes which means Max will need to manage her blood sugar levels for the rest of her life.

When we first learned about her diagnosis, we experienced a whirlwind of emotions—fear, sadness, confusion, and even anger. She is only five years old, and it was difficult to process how this would affect her daily life and our family dynamics. She is such an energetic happy child. Max is full of life, headstrong, and so sweet. Our heart breaks for her tremendously, and we are actively seeking resources and support systems that can help us navigate this journey. Our goal is to ensure that Maxine feels empowered and supported as she learns to live with diabetes.

UPDATE: Max is doing well. We met her PENS team here at Sutter Sac Medical Center and she started on insulin. She is so brave about all the test and injections.

UPDATE: Max is home. We have so many appointments coming up before Christmas and still trying to find the new normal for us and our kids.

During our journey, we kindly ask for your support as this diagnosis will change our lives significantly. Unfortunately, we are facing a loss of income since Megan will remain home for a couple months to help manage her diabetes and monitor her care for the next few months. Additionally, this diagnosis comes with significant medical expenses, such as insulin therapy, continuous glucose monitoring supplies, unexpected steep copays, and travel to frequent doctor visits in Sacramento. We are reaching out for help to cover these unexpected costs.
