Support Max & Roxy After Their Loss
Donation protected
Who are Max and Roxy?
Max, Roxy, and their sibling Clementine (who is up for adoption at Saving Grace HERE) unexpectedly lost their owner about a month ago. She was their greatest love.
Their owner was a light to Durham, especially to the Scrap Exchange and Part & Parcel community. These spaces will not be the same without her presence.
It’s been tough to know how to honor the life Max and Roxy had before the loss of their dear owner, but we're trying our best to make sure they are loved and cared for in the wake of this loss.
Initially, Max and Roxy were at a local shelter and set to be euthanized. I rescued them from the shelter, with the help of their owner's family and friends, and have been working hard to make sure they aren’t in that vulnerable position again.
(I want to pause here to say how grateful we are for APS-Durham and similar rescue organizations, as they are doing the best they can with the resources they have.)
Though they are currently safe and loved, Roxy and Max (and Clementine!) are still incredibly vulnerable with no permanent home.
The funds for their daily needs, in-home boarding care, & deserved vet maintenance are something we need support with.
Outside of supporting their everyday needs we have an even bigger need which is finding them a permanent, loving home! Can anyone adopt these dear pups? We have transitional support in place and a whole community of folks who can offer various kinds of transitional help.
THE BREAKDOWN
Biggest needs?
- Financial support
- URGENTLY looking for adoption homes!!
What are these funds used for?
- Because shelters and rescues are so full and we currently have no one available to foster Max & Roxy, they are currently staying with a lovely community member. This is a paid, in-home boarding agreement that equally supports Max, Roxy and their boarder and has served as wonderful respite for the pups. This is, however, temporary as we ultimately hope the dogs will get adopted and is not something we can afford long-term without your help. This is our biggest financial need.
- Food, treats, poop bags and other routine daily items
- Vet maintenance and emergency vet fund (for the just-incases!)
ADOPTION Qs & As!
Do Max and Roxy have to be adopted together?
Max and Roxy do NOT have to be adopted together though we would love for that to happen. Max, Roxy and their sibling Clementine are incredibly bonded. Max and Roxy have become one another's safe spaces since losing their owner and starting over.
Do Max & Roxy get along with other pets?
Dogs: We are still learning their temperaments, but we believe that they possibly could! From what we have observed and heard from their history there is a good chance that they could bond with other dogs. We have not observed evidence of aggressive behavior but would request they be introduced to other dogs in a controlled environment. We have a community member who has offered to help us with behavior analysis if someone who is interested in adopting would like to take us up on this offer.
Cats: From what we have observed and heard from their history, Max has lived with cats in the past and show no signs of aggression when being introduced to cats at a safe distance.
Roxy has lived with cats in the past and HAS shown signs of aggression. We recommend that she not be put in a home with a cat.
Do Max and Roxy get along with kids?
We are still learning their temperaments but we believe that they possibly could! From what we have heard from their history, Max and Roxy are very friendly with humans of all ages.
We suggest introduction in a controlled environment with any new person just because we all need time adjusting to new things! But Max and Roxy are VERY loving dogs.
BIOS AND PICS BELOW!

- 6 year old neutered pit mix (approx. 45 pds)
- BIGGEST snuggle buddy in the world. Want your own personal weighted blanket or a tv lap buddy, max is your guy! He is the most loving pup around.
- Enthusiastic play mate! Max would be a great running pal, trail companion or racing buddy in the yard.
- Loves car rides and having the window rolled down though he would rather sit in your lap lol
- Very patient and listens to commands fairly well though would benefit from some more consistent training.
- Max will jump on you or other puppies when he gets excited and is still learning how to shift that energy.

- 10 year old spayed Staffordshire Terrier Bull and pit mix (approx. 47pds)
- Was rescued from an abusive home in 2015 so is a little more reserved. Change can be hard for Roxy but she is always very willing to try out new things with some encouragement.
- Roxy is very loving and will snuggle up next to you on the couch.
- An amazing adventure companion! Though she hates the car (takes some encouragement) she will gladly go on any adventure with you that is outside. Her favorite outdoor activities? Wrestling roots, digging holes and swimming with the fishes!
- Roxy listens to commands but is also set in her ways. Some consistent training (and treats!) always help.

We are so grateful for everyone who is helping us do this!
Lot of love from Max, Roxy and their care team~
