Update from Chrystal:
10/23/2022
Thank you to everyone who has reached out and sent love our way, we appreciate it so much. It keeps Max going, knowing that so many people love him and are praying for him, knowing that he has impacted so many people. It’s fuel for us both.
Lately, whenever we have hard moments or things feel impossible we stop and we say “you wanna pray about it?” And we give it up, get it off our chests and keep pushing. And we make it every time. When I feel too tired to keep going Max encourages me and keeps me strong, at a time when I should be the one steering that ship. He is truly the most amazing man.
I couldn’t be more proud of him. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever seen someone fight through and he does it with grace and love like everything else. Every nurse or doctor who enters his room thanks them for their time and care…I don’t know how I would act in his position but I hope that I could be even half as gracious and good to others during my most difficult time.
We have two weeks of radiation done with one more to go. By the end of next week we should be getting some scans done to see how he responds. I have seen a lot of improvements that might seem small but give me hope. One of the doctors explained to us that when the cancer is on a cranial nerve like his is, and it starts to shrink, it can cause an increased amount of pain, an overstimulation to the senses. So I’m hoping to be able to take the pain he is suffering as a positive…I so am ready for him to get out of this horrible fog and feel like himself again. I’m endlessly impressed by how good and loving he is through this whole battle. He has suffered so many things, but he has not lost himself.
It’s going to be a long road of recovery, he is going to need a lot of physical therapy to regain his strength and abilities. But that takes willpower above all else. I’ve seen what he can fight through and facing himself will be nothing once he beats this cancer. His mental strength is absolutely beyond explanation and something to be in awe of.
Specifically we ask that you pray for this radiation to be doing it’s job and for good news at the end of the week. I know that it can make one feel so helpless when these things are happening, like there’s nothing you can do…but I promise you we feel those prayers and we need them. It’s working. Please don’t stop.
If you call or text Max regularly it’s been hard for him to respond, but I am reading them to him and making sure he knows everything you’re all saying.
-Chrystal Boys
On behalf of Chrystal Carey and her amazing fiancé, Max Boys. I am helping them in asking for support in Max’s ongoing battle with stage 4 lymphoma, which has recently progressed.
Chrystal is my cousin but in our eyes, we have always been sisters. She has poured her heart into being Max’s partner and being a mom to his daughters.
As many of you know, Max was diagnosed with Stage 4 B cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in the fall of 2021. Max endured months of chemotherapy, treatments, hospital stays, medical appointments and scans. In April 2022 a PET scan indicated that he was in remission. Max, Chrystal and their daughters rejoiced in his healing.
However, in June Max began experiencing pain once again. In August he was told the cancer had returned and was in his brain.
The last two months have been extremely difficult for Max and his family with treatment beginning once again.
The past two weeks Max has experienced an increase in pain and symptoms from the lymphoma. The initial diagnosis of the pain being side effects of chemotherapy and medications turned out to be incorrect.
Max was admitted on Friday, September 30th to a local Florida hospital where an MRI revealed that his brain cancer had progressed. Max remains hospitalized, awaiting a transfer to Moffitt hospital where his oncology team will formulate a plan of care.
With the latest diagnosis, Max has been unable to work. Chrystal has been on leave from work since his hospitalization to be by his side.
Facing the cost of ongoing medical expenses, medications as well as typical monthly expenses and bills continues to be a challenge.
Max has 3 beautiful daughters. Jayde (12), Kamryn (11) and Nora (8) miss their dad and pray for his healing.
From Chrystal:
Max has faced many ups and downs in his most recent battle with cancer. Max is exceptional. He is an amazing man, father and partner. He is so strong and we have faith in God. We have known each other most of our lives and were blessed to end up together at the right time in our lives. I have seen him over come many hardships. We are praying this will be another moment we can one day look back on and marvel in our strength together.
