Support Max with his Stroke Recovery

Donation protected

June 2 Update. Max is making progress every day and will be discharged from inpatient rehab tomorrow. He will start outpatient rehab soon. We are all hopeful for a full recovery!

Hi, my name is Kari and I never thought I'd be writing this story, but here I am. I've been thinking about what to say, and it's challenging to find the words. My daughter's partner, Max, experienced a hemorrhagic stroke last week, so I created this fundraiser to help Max and City by alleviating some of the financial anxieties they are facing.

Today is Max's 28th birthday and he is currently in the ICU working on his recovery. He is studying to become a master sommelier, and he and City were aspiring to open their own restaurant in the future. Both their lives changed in an instant when last Monday, Max was shaving and dropped his razor. Unable to pick it up again, he fell to the ground just as City walked through the door. Fortunately, an ambulance was called and Max was rushed to the trauma center where he received immediate care.

Max has a lovely, supportive family, and both Max and City are lucky to have close friends nearby who want to help them in any way they can. City is staying at the hospital every day until visitor hours are over and she is required to leave.

I've created this fundraiser to help these two incredible and kind people navigate the next several months as Max recovers from the stroke, and City provides her unconditional care for him. She refuses to leave his side until the hospital staff gently reminds her to leave when visiting hours are over. She is currently preparing their apartment so it is more accessible for Max once he returns home from his rehabilitation program.

I dream of a society where GoFundMe campaigns are not needed. Where we care for each other unconditionally, without a system that profits from medical trauma and misfortune. However our system isn't created to do that, so we need to rely on each other individually to pull us through the most difficult of times. Thank you for considering a donation.
