On the late evening of January 17, our family’s life changed forever. Maurice Jr. was helping a friend get to work when they were involved in a serious car accident. Moments later, the unthinkable happened: the vehicle caught on fire

In a situation no one should ever have to endure, Maurice became trapped inside a burning car. He quite literally had to go through fire to escape, fighting his way out without knowing if he would survive. By the grace of God, he made it out alive, but not without devastating injuries and unimaginable trauma.

What makes this even more challenging to process is that the friend he was helping walked away nearly unscathed. Emergency responders and good Samaritans were already approaching the vehicle before it was mentioned that Maurice Jr. might still be inside. That reality has been deeply painful for our entire family to come to terms with.

We are endlessly grateful to God that Maurice Jr. is still here with us, but this is only the beginning of a very long and challenging journey. His right hand and right leg were severely burned and will require multiple surgeries, skin grafts, and extensive rehabilitation. The physical pain, emotional trauma, and recovery ahead are overwhelming.

Beyond his own healing, Maurice Jr. is also a devoted and loving father to his 6-year-old daughter, who depends on him. Right now, he is trying to recover while also carrying the weight of how he will continue to provide for her during this impossible season.
