Maui is our sweet 2.5-year-old cat, and he means the world to us. He is loving, playful, and incredibly smart—a little soul who fills our home with joy every single day.

A few days ago, we noticed something was wrong. Maui wasn’t using the litter box as usual and seemed to be in pain. We rushed him to the vet and found out he had a urinary obstruction, a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that is unfortunately common in male cats.

Maui had to be hospitalized and have a catheter placed to relieve the blockage. He was uncomfortable, scared, and confused, but he bravely made it through the night and the following days at the hospital. After three days, he was sent home, and we were hopeful he was on the mend.

Sadly, Maui didn’t improve once he was home. Just three days later, his symptoms returned and we had to rush him back to the emergency hospital for another catheter and more intensive care. It was heartbreaking to see him in so much distress again.

After this second hospitalization, the veterinary team told us that the safest way to protect Maui’s life and prevent repeated blockages is a surgery called a Perineal Urethrostomy (PU). This procedure will widen his urethra and significantly reduce the chances of future obstructions. Without this surgery, Maui would remain at high risk for another painful and dangerous blockage.

Maui is scheduled for his surgery this Wednesday. He will need to stay in the hospital for one or two days afterward so he can be carefully monitored and begin his healing. We are hopeful that, after this, he can finally come home to recover and go back to being the happy, playful cat we know and love.

Maui’s medical expenses, which now include:

As a single mom working for a non-profit, these unexpected veterinary bills are far beyond what I can manage on my own. Every invoice is a reminder that, while I will do anything for Maui, I simply can’t do it alone.
