Help Matt’s Family During Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kenbra and I’m fundraising for my friend Christy Walt and her family of four. Her Husband Matt, suffered an aneurysm while at home April 7th 2022.

Christy came home to find him on the floor between the toilet and shower. He was breathing and his eyes wandered but he couldn’t speak. Christy called 911 immediately and Matt was taken to Belton Regional but then transferred to Research Medical Center due to his serious condition. The neurologist took him into surgery for over 10+ hours. Matt had a brain aneurysm that bled into his left lobe - literally the worst place for a bleed. Surgery was very complex and they had no idea what would happen once Matt woke up.

More than a month later Matt was taken home, but his short term memory was so bad that after 4 days he had to be taken back to Research hospital where the family is waiting to know what will happen next. They’ve recently learned that he will possibly be moved to a nursing home but it’s still TBD.

Matt has no understanding that he has completely lost his short term memory. He doesn’t know what is happening and demands to leave. The doctors say he is unable to work or come home because of the severe damage to his left lobe from the aneurysm.

Christy and their two teenage daughters, Grace (15y/o) and Haley (18y/o) are heartbroken and don’t know what the future holds. Grace is having an especially hard time with what’s happening. Christy has long stayed home with Haley who is mentally challenged with schizophrenia and has now found herself with no financial stability and in fear of eventually losing their home.

As Christy’s seeking longer term support through various state agencies, her family really needs help with essentials right now. Thankfully food is not a concern, but things that were so straightforward before like paying utilities and the mortgage, filling up the car, buying toiletries and cleaning supplies, picking up prescriptions and even buying dog food has become difficult without Matt’s income. Now there are medical bills starting to roll in. Matt was self employed and therefore has no short or long term disability benefits.

Matt is one of those people who would do anything for just about anyone, and he’s unable to care for his family like he’s done in the past. If he was able to comprehend what was happening now I know he would have a hard time asking for help - so I’m asking for him. Could you help his family?

Appreciate your kind consideration.
