In November this year, I’ll be travelling to Nepal for fieldwork that forms part of my PhD on post-disaster architecture and humanitarian response.
My research explores how semi-permanent field hospitals, like those built after the 2015 Nepal earthquake, can continue to support communities long after the initial emergency — bridging the gap between crisis response and permanent reconstruction.
In partnership with the Nepal Red Cross Society and Canadian Red Cross, I’ll be conducting case study research on one such rural hospital, including site visits and interviews with those involved in its design, operation, and community role.
While I’ve received a university grant covering flights and accommodation, I have found out quite late in the process that it doesn’t include key field costs such as translation, local travel, insurance, and driver support which will needed to complete this research effectively and responsibly.
I’m seeking to raise $2,500 AUD to cover these expenses. Every contribution helps make this fieldwork possible and supports research aimed at strengthening disaster recovery for remote communities.
Thank you sincerely for your support — it means a great deal.
