Support Matt's Recovery After Home Invasion

Hey everyone,

I'm Jim Histed, and I'm reaching out to ask for your help. A very good friend of mine, Matt Grein, and his fiancée Sara were the victims of a brutal home invasion on September 21st.

Matt (aka 'Rocky' to those who know and love him) and I have been friends for nearly 20 years. We first met working at the Olive Garden in Orland Park, and since becoming fast friends, we’ve shared countless laughs, quite a few rounds of golf, and travel stories that will last a lifetime.

Matt has always been there for me, and this is the least I can do to be there for him now.

What Happened:

In the middle of the night on September 21, Matt and his fiancée, Sara, were woken from their sleep when a stranger tried to brutally force their way into their home. Matt barricaded the door with his own body, and fought bravely to keep the intruder out. During the struggle Matt sustained severe injuries, including 10 stab wounds to his back, shoulder and ear, plus broken bones in his foot from barricading the door shut.

Despite his wounds, Matt’s courageous actions prevented the intruder from entering their home, likely saving both his and Sara’s lives.

How You Can Help:

Matt's road to recovery will be long and tough. He has already undergone one surgery as a result of his injuries, with more expected. Matt is a dedicated member of the service industry by trade, meaning he is physically unable to return to work for 3-4 months while he is in recovery. The strain of medical bills, lost wages, and other expenses are already overwhelming and will likely continue. Furthermore, Matt and Sara haven’t been able to return home for their own safety, as the attacker is still at large and wanted by the authorities.

He has been an incredible friend to me since we met almost two decades ago. Those who know him can attest, he has the biggest heart, an even bigger laugh, and nothing but love for his friends and family.
