If you’ve ever been to a Farmington cheer competition, you’ve probably seen (and heard!) Matt Cossitt — the proud dad in the tiger-striped jacket, cheering louder than anyone in the stands. He’s the kind of dad who radiates joy, energy, and love for his family — a man who gives everything to support his community, his team, and his girls.
Now, it’s our turn to cheer for him.
Matt is a 21-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, a devoted husband to Jodi, and an incredible father to Tessa and Sophie. Tessa is a junior on the Farmington Varsity Competition Cheer Team, and Jodi is not only that team’s co-coach, but she also coaches the Adaptive and Pee-Wee Farmington Competition teams. Matt is also a member-at-large on the Farmington Competition Cheer Teams Booster Club. Together, they embody what the Farmington cheer family is all about — teamwork, spirit, and heart.
Recently, Matt received devastating news: he was diagnosed with Stage 2 metastatic throat cancer. Since October 17, 2025, he has been courageously undergoing an intense treatment plan that includes immunotherapy every other week, radiation five days a week, and chemotherapy once a week. Treatment is expected to continue through early December.
Despite the grueling schedule and side effects, Matt has continued to work as a second-shift production supervisor at an electro-plating plant — determined to provide for his family and keep life as normal as possible. But as his treatments progress, the fatigue and other painful side effects will eventually make it impossible for him to keep working. When that happens, Jodi plans to take a leave from her full-time job as a special education teacher to care for him.
This incredible family has given so much to others — to their teams, their students, and their community. Now, they need our support.
Your donations will help ease the financial burden of lost income, medical bills, travel expenses for treatments, and day-to-day needs while Matt focuses on healing. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference — and every message of encouragement lifts their spirits.
As we approach Thanksgiving, let’s rally around the Cossitt family with the same love and energy that Matt brings to every cheer competition. Let’s show him that his community is cheering just as loudly for him now as he has always cheered for all of us.
❤️ Please donate, share, and keep the Cossitt family in your thoughts and prayers.
Together, we can help this amazing dad, husband, veteran, and cheer champion through his toughest fight yet.
