Matt, my brother, was diagnosed with brain cancer during the pandemic after experiencing a seizure. The news was devastating for our family, but Matt faced it with incredible strength. He underwent surgery to remove the mass, and thankfully, the operation was successful. Since then, Matt has needed multiple MRIs every year to monitor for any signs of the cancer returning. This March, we learned that the tumor has come back as a slow-growing mass. Now, Matt must undergo even more frequent MRIs and will need to be on expensive medication for the rest of his life to help stop the tumor from growing.

Matt is a devoted husband and a loving father to his 9-year-old daughter. The first round of surgery and ongoing medical needs have already left his family with tens of thousands of dollars in medical debt. On top of that, they max out their out-of-pocket maximum every year due to the ongoing treatments and medication Matt requires. The financial strain is overwhelming, and it’s hard for them to focus on what matters most—spending time together as a family—when they are constantly worried about bills and expenses.
