Support Mattix Kaluahine's Medical Journey

Meet Mattix Kekamaikaikamaikalani Kaluahine. Five years ago, Mattix was born at Wilcox Hospital via c-section and was immediately medevaced to Kapiolani Medical Center on Oahu without his parents at his side. His mom and dad, Jenna and Matt

Kaluahine were able to join him two days later. Mattix was born with an imperforated anus. There was no puka in his okole for him to poop normally. Over the course of his very young life, Mattix endured several corrective surgeries, including the use of a colostomy bag, hospital stays and countless doctor visits on Oahu. Mattix was also being monitored since birth for a congenital heart defect every six months with regular check ups and screening.

In May 2024 the Kaluahines were told by their pediatric cardiologist that they wanted to perform a same day procedure as Mattix was getting a little older and they felt that it would be safe to send a camera through an artery in his groin. They found a vessel that was very enlarged and pushing out A LOT of blood. After consulting with a team of other cardiologists, Mattix underwent an 8 hour surgery on July 23, 2024. He had 3, yes THREE heart bypasses and a pacemaker during that surgery. During and after his recovery, not once did he cry or complain.

Mattix is so anxious to start attending school with his sister but he has a long road ahead of him to many more doctor visits and recovery.

The decision to post this GoFundMe request took a lot of urging from family members and friends for Mattix's parents, Jenna and Matt to agree to because they don't ever like to impose on anyone. But they could use any amount of financial assistance and especially prayers for a complete and speedy recovery for Mattix.

We have no idea what the out of pocket medical expenses will be. The outer island travel expenses alone are sometimes extremely expensive. We hesitated on an amount to even "request". To be honest, it feels quite embarrassing to ask but we went with what the GoFundMe app suggested. Please be assured. Every dollar donated will be deposited directly to Jenna and Matt Kaluahine to help with their mounting medical and travel expenses.
