Hello everyone, Jazmyn here, as many of you know last June we received some very life-changing news regarding my dad Matthew (Matt or many of you know him as G) when he was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor that we tragically found out is a Primary Brain Cancer called Glioblastoma Multiforme or GBM.
GBM is Grade 4 Terminal Brain Cancer with a very poor prognosis, typically 2 to 14 months depending on treatment decisions. Dad opted for treatment & wanted to receive his Oncology Care here in Huntsville Alabama where he was currently living, & loved to be. My husband, daughter & I relocated to be here with dad last July & we have taken everything head on these last 9 months. GBM is not just a cancer journey but also a cognitive journey as it affects & impairs so much more than what you would even begin to think.
This journey has been the hardest thing we have been through & experienced as a family & through it all dad has stayed tough & sometimes even ornery, always ready to see what was next to try. We have been so grateful to be able to be with him & spend this time as a family. Dad has recently been admitted into an In Patient Hospice Care Facility here in Huntsville Alabama, treatments have stopped, comfort is priority & we see now it is time for him to just rest.
Matt has expressed his wishes to go home (Colorado) to be with his family & his friends for the time that we have left together and we are so happy that we are capable of helping him with his goal. In order to get dad transported home he would have to take a Critical Care Medical Flight via a company called AngelMed Flight. This is an amazing company that offers bedside to bedside full medical transport, which is the only way dad is capable of traveling at this end stage.
Unfortunately Insurance & VA benefits are not an option for this transportation since it is considered strictly "Compassionate Care reasons". The Flight total is $29k. It covers all medical supplies & medical staff, Flight crew, transportation in a Hemsi to & from the airport, care given during transport, fuel, airplane & flight fees.
We want to do EVERYTHING in our power to get Matt home & to honor this amazing Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, Freind & 22 year combat veterans final wishes. As his family we hoped to make a GoFundMe option for anyone who may be able to help lighten this substantial amount and help get Matt home.
Dad was a 57 year young, motorcycle riding, loved traveling, always smiling, fun loving man with a 33 year career in Blackhawk Helicopter Aviation when he was struck with this terrible news. If you know dad you know he didn't have an enemy in the room and just loved to laugh & have a good time. He would help anyone in need & has touched the lives of so many. I love my dad with all of my heart & I have seen everything he has sacrificed for his country & for our family. Please help me in giving him his final wishes, anything is appreciated. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts in helping to get Matthew home so that he can be surrounded by his loved ones during this difficult time.
