Matthew Weldon Mahoney – Medical Bills

Hi, my name is Shannon Mahoney, and my wife is Amy Mahoney. We have two sons named Matthew and Daniel. Matthew, our oldest, is 33 and has been battling melanoma for five years. It started when his previous dermatologist misdiagnosed a spot on his neck and injected it with steroids, without performing a biopsy. Because of the oversight, the small spot on his neck grew rapidly and a general surgeon had to remove it. That’s when Matthew found out it was Stage 3C Melanoma.

After two surgeries removing lymph nodes and two years of immunotherapy, he was considered clear. November of 2024 the cancer came back to one of his adrenal glands. He had it removed, and they started him back on immunotherapy. But immunotherapy alone was not enough and, by January of 2025, they discovered that the melanoma had spread throughout his entire body, including his brain. Along with targeted radiation treatments and immunotherapy, his oncologist started treating him with two targeted cancer medications. They worked well for several months. His side effects made it difficult to work full-time, but his melanoma disappeared. However, the side effects gradually became more severe, making work impossible, and his latest CTDNA blood test shows that the cancer was still growing exponentially.

His oncologist now believes it is Keytruda immunotherapy that is causing extreme side effects. Matthew will have to stop immunotherapy and rely on the targeted cancer meds alone. We are praying that his next pet scan is still clear, but his oncologist thinks that he will need to start TIL Therapy soon. With TIL therapy, Matthew will not be able to go back to work for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile regular life and medical bills keep coming.

We are so proud of Matthew. He completed four years of college in Blue Mountain Mississippi. He has been a general manager at a restaurant in Auburn, Alabama for many years now. He is always ready to help his friends and fellow employees with anything they need. His fiancé is Devon Brown, a recent graduate of Auburn University who hopes to become an archaeologist. She is currently working at the same restaurant as Matthew, trying to keep them afloat while he deals with tests, treatments, and the side effects of those treatments. (We are so thankful for Devon.) Matthew loves all things computer related, online and tabletop gaming with friends, watching movies, reading, and spending time with Devon, their dog Goose, and their two cats.

We love Matthew very much and are asking everyone for donations to help him pay his medical bills and living expenses while he faces this next phase of treatment for Stage 4 Melanoma.
