My husband’s name is Matthew Cabe, and we wish to share his experience with neurofibromatosis, a condition that significantly affects his daily life. Currently, he experiences approximately 20-30 falls each day. He was recently approved for the use of a wheelchair and a cane, which he is now incorporating into his daily routine.
On December 23, 2024, he underwent shoulder surgery to address a torn rotator cuff and a torn bicep. Unfortunately, following this surgery, he has had numerous falls, leading to multiple MRIs to assess potential reinjury. Since the surgery, he has been on short-term disability, and he is currently receiving long-term disability benefits. After being employed at the same company for the last 30 years, his employment was terminated by his company on March 28th due to the expiration of his FMLA benefits, which cover a period of 90 days.
On March 25th, he learned that he suffered a retear of his rotator cuff and bicep, as well as a new tear in his labrum, following a fall in a church parking lot. He now requires another surgical procedure to repair these injuries. As he is no longer employed, he will need to purchase COBRA coverage, which costs $1,079.79 per month for individual coverage. Additionally, in order to proceed with his surgery, we must pay the first month's COBRA premium and 20% of the surgeon's fees upfront.
Any contributions to help cover his medical expenses would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your consideration and support.
