Introduction: Hello! My name is Matteo D'Anello and I am the Writer, Director, and Co-Producer of Last Call!

This film is being made for my Advanced Cinema Production Fiction class. The idea to make a film set in the afterlife came to me earlier this year and I couldn't get my mind off the concept. After many drafts, I have crafted a story that touches on love, acceptance, and growth within a relationship.

I was inspired by films that tackled this afterlife concept such as Beetlejuice (dir. Tim Burton) and Defending Your Life (dir. Albert Brooks). My film will blend the tones and aesthetics of those respective films incorporated with my own perspective.

Synopsis: Set in a heightened version of the afterlife, a long-lost couple, Russell & Eloise, are reunited many years after their demises. They have all the time in the world now for everything they couldn’t do but the more fulfilled they find themselves the more they notice their decaying bodies. A night at a local bar lounge shatters their perfect afterlife when one of them wonders when they’ll be ready to “drift” away into the next stage of life.

The Crew:

MATTEO D'ANELLO - WRITER/DIRECTOR/PRODUCER

Matteo is a Junior Cinema & Photography Major with a Minor in Writing for Film, TV & Emerging Media. He is the director, writer, and producer of Last Call. Along with directing, writing, producing & editing a film last year, Matteo has previous experience as an Assistant Director, Grip and Boom Operator on set. He is a part of Delta Kappa Alpha, a cinematic society on campus. In his free time, he loves to go to the movie theater, write his next story, and hang out with friends.

SAMANTHA SMITH - PRODUCER

Sam is a Junior Cinema/Photo major with a minor in psychology and screenwriting. Sam has produced and directed several student films during her time here at IC and she is extremely excited about producing Last Call!

DAISY BOLGER - DP

Daisy is a Junior in the Film, Photography, and Visual Arts major at Ithaca College from Ossining, NY. She is the Director of Photography on Last Call. She has worked as Director of Photography, Gaffer, Assistant Camera, and Editor on a variety of student and thesis films—she enjoys shooting on 16mm film the most. As Assistant Manager at IC's Park Portable Equipment Center and Support, she has extensive hands-on experience with production gear both on and off-set. Daisy is passionate about contributing to a more equitable and inclusive future for unrepresented filmmakers and making art that uplifts and sparks change.

Where will the money go?:

The money will go towards the 16 MM film cost/transfer, location, props, make-up, costumes, craft services, transportation, and festivals. As student filmmakers, any donation means the world to us!!
