A Personal Update on Matt Swann’s Health Journey

Hello, friends and family. I’m reaching out to share an essential update on Matt’s health. Recently, he began experiencing some issues with urination, and after a series of tests and consultations with an incredible urologist, he’s been diagnosed with bladder cancer. We do know that the next few months/years of his life will be difficult, and he’s going to need our love, support, and financial assistance.

How You Can Help:
As Matt faces this unexpected challenge, your support means the world to him. We’ve set up a GoFundMe page to help cover medical expenses (currently at $6,500+) and other unforeseen costs as he navigates this journey, as he will be off work unpaid for 8-10 weeks. Whether it’s a small contribution or a more significant donation, every bit will help Matt focus on what matters most — his health and beating this cancer.

Thank you so much for your continued love, generosity, and support. Matt is not in this alone — we’ll take it one step at a time.

A Message from Matt:
So far, I’m feeling hopeful about this journey. I’m incredibly fortunate to live in Houston, Texas, where MD Anderson Cancer Center, one of the best cancer treatment centers in the world, will be managing my care. I’ve been referred to Dr. Neema Navai, a leading expert on cancers of the urinary tract, and I’m confident that I’m in great hands. I’ve heard many positive stories from patients treated there, and many still thrive.
This is still very early in the process. I haven’t had my full consultation with my oncologist yet, but I’ll have more information as my tests and consultations progress. Bladder cancer is rare for someone my age, but I’m choosing to see that as a positive — my body is strong, and I know it will be able to fight this and handle the treatments ahead.
To be honest, I’m scared. Cancer is overwhelming, and it affects many people every year. But I’ve already heard so many inspiring stories from friends who have fought and beaten cancer. And I’m holding on to those stories for strength as I move forward.
One of my biggest concerns is the financial burden of medical bills, as well as the possibility of being out of work for 6-10 weeks, depending on the surgery. I’m doing my best to stay focused on my health, but the reality of these challenges is weighing on me. Your support through this GoFundMe will help alleviate some of that stress and allow me to focus on getting better.

A Positive Update: I had my first follow-up appointment on December 16th, and I’m thrilled to share some good news!
  • My chest x-ray came back clean — no signs of cancer in my lungs.
  • My blood work showed no spread of cancer beyond my bladder.

3/29 Update-Final chemo pre-surgery is 4/1

If you’re a Cancer Survivor, I'd love to hear from you if you’ve been through a similar experience. Your insights, encouragement, and advice would mean a lot to me. And if you’re just a friend who wants to check in or offer encouragement, I’d appreciate that too. I’m walking this journey with hope, and knowing I have all of you behind me makes all the difference.

Thank you so much for your love, support, and prayers. I am deeply grateful to have such a strong, supportive network. We’re taking this one day at a time, and with your help, I know I can face whatever comes next.

Thank you for being there for me and for all your continued support!
