Hello,
Matt is facing a housing crisis due to the exorbitant costs of cancer treatments. He has only about 4 more months of rent left of savings to stay in his apartment. Section 8 is on a 3-4 year wait and the country's assistant housing voucher program's were just put on hold..
This pressure greatly adds to the mental, emotional and physical stress he has been undergoing. We are doing all that we can to have a backup plan, but options have been hard to find.
His ongoing treatment is now in in the hands of an immunotherapy clinical trial. He is fighting and trying with all of his might but we need a village.
-----------
My mom's youngest brother Matt Phillips, or as some of you know him as "Uncle Matt", was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer that is also in his lymph nodes and is spreading quickly. He needs immediate surgery and chemotherapy.

Matt had an Ischemic stroke in early January 2024 and is getting in-patient care at Spaulding Rehab in Charlestown. This stroke was likely caused by blot clots brought on by his chemotherapy treatment. His spirits are remarkably high and we are continuously impressed by his positive outlook despite all that he is going through.

Matt has lived his entire adult life working hard, often with two jobs, supporting himself. While undergoing cancer treatment, he will need to take time away from work in order to fight like a warrior to beat this while paying for all of his doctors visits, treatments and any other assistance he needs that his insurance does not cover.

Matt is a loved, fun and caring uncle, brother, son, friend and community member. He always been there for me and he'll drop whatever he's doing for loved ones in his life. If there's anytime to get him back and to be there for him, it is now.

If we could pull together as a loving and supporting community to contribute financially to his care taking during this time, that would mean the world to me, him and our family. Easing the stress that comes with the burden of cost could allow him to focus on his healing instead of the huge logistical weight that medical costs bring.

Hoka hey.

Love to you all and thank you.
