Support Matt Huschka's Fight Against Cancer

Friends, Family, Helpers, Strangers we don’t yet know and Do-gooders, we need your help.

Our friend and chosen family member Matt Huschka is being faced with an unexpected and life changing cancer diagnosis.

About a month ago Matt ended up in the Urgent Care with some unidentifiable pains in his arms and legs. The staff treated him for aches and pains and sent him on his way. Fast forward a few weeks and Matt needed to return to the hospital Emergency Room because he was having trouble breathing. During that visit the staff was able to provide Matt with more answers. They found that he had blood clots and set him up to visit with a blood specialist at the University of Minnesota.

The appointment with the specialist was scheduled for Tuesday, July 15th, 2025. On that morning Matt was not himself. When he arrived at his parents' house his mother, Michelle immediately knew something was not right. Michelle took him to the appointment at the U of M, and the specialist immediately agreed that Matt needed more specialized care. He was taken to the U of M, Emergency Department where he underwent multiple tests, CT scans and MRIs. All of these tests showed that Matt had suffered a stroke.

A week of long days and nights have followed Tuesday much of which has spiraled out of control in a series of events which included another stroke, more tests, an army of specialty doctors, a heart scan, lymph node biopsy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and a joyous first physical step for Matt back on his feet assisted by his medical team and much cheering from his “Number One Squad” , Mom and Dad.

Which brings us to now. Today there is an official diagnosis of cancer. Nonsmall Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). All of the amazing doctors and specialists are currently putting together a care plan to begin this fight against NSCLC.

Matt along with his Mom and Dad, Michelle and Duane Huschka are prepared to fight this diagnosis with every ounce of their strength. Let's be their Superman, “Even in the darkest times, hope cuts through. Hope is the light that lifts us out of darkness.” and “You will be different, sometimes you feel like an outcast, but you will never be alone”.

We will keep you updated along the way. No one knows exactly what the next few months might look like. In the short term there will be a move out of the ICU, acute therapy, three intensive therapies per day for the next 1-2 weeks. So, we are asking you for your financial help. Let’s come together and take the burden of worrying about bills and the necessary everyday cost of living off of Matt's plate, so that he can focus all of his strength on his health.

Thank you for your love, thoughts and prayers and continued outpouring of support from near and far for Matt and his family. They are going to need each and every one of us.
