My name is Matt Geiger, and I am a devoted father of three children. For 28 years, I have dedicated my life to education, serving as a teacher, counselor, and administrator in public, private, charter, and parochial schools. My wife, Amie, and I have been married for 24 years, and together we have seen firsthand the challenges and triumphs that come with raising children in today’s educational landscape.
All three of my children have attended Pasco Public Schools, each with their own Individualized Education Program (IEP). Despite the best efforts of many dedicated teachers, my children struggled to learn in chaotic environments that didn’t meet their needs. Ultimately, we had to move each of them to charter or private schools to ensure they received the support and attention they deserved. This experience opened my eyes to the urgent need for change in our district, especially for students who require specialized support.
I am running for Pasco County School Board District 3 because I believe every child deserves a quieter, more positive environment where they can learn at their own level. My goal is to revamp the special education program and create solutions that work for all students.
In addition to improving special education, I want to address the ongoing teacher shortage in Pasco County. I plan to work with the Housing Finance Authority and local developers to create teacher villages throughout the county, offering subsidized housing to teachers who choose to move to Pasco and serve in our schools. This will help attract and retain talented educators who are essential to our students’ success.
I also want to partner with local employers to identify workforce needs and develop career pathways for students who may not pursue college. By creating career cluster programs in collaboration with businesses, we can provide mentorships, internships, and externships that prepare students for well-paid careers after high school, reduce dropout rates, and help our local economy thrive.
Another key idea is to establish support centers across Pasco County that operate into the evening. These centers would offer assistance with educational paperwork, provide access to district guidance counselors, and serve as a hub for families to connect with unions, military representatives, and university recruiters. The centers would also help students and families complete college applications, FAFSA, and Bright Futures applications, ensuring everyone has the support they need to succeed.
The money raised through this campaign will be used to make citizens aware of my plan to move the Pasco County School District forward in a positive direction. Your support will help me reach more people, share my vision, and bring about the changes our schools need. Thank you for believing in a better future for our children and our community.
