Support Matt Courtright's CIDP Treatment
3 570 $ récoltés sur
Hi! I started this fundraiser for my husband, Matt Courtright. Back in November of 2022, Matt got really sick. Matt was first diagnosed with dual Bell's palsy, Miller Fisher Syndrome, and Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Now it has all been placed under CIDP which is Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy which means his body is attacking the sheathing of his nerves. There is no cure for CIDP as it's chronic and we can only hope that science will discover a cure in the future.
Matt couldn't talk, had to use a wheelchair, his hands and feet were constantly numb, and his energy level was so low from his treatments in the hospital. He fought to regain his speech, progressed from using a wheelchair to being able to stand for short periods of time with a walker to currently being able to walk with periods of rest. Since his diagnosis, his pain level is more often then not at a 6 or more but, that depends on the day.
While Matt was battling this disease early on, he still wanted to support our Rugby teams and players. He pushed himself to attend matches and loved feeling normal for just a moment. The Rugby community was so kind and loving and showed so much support. I can't say enough about the wonderful people that reached out in one way or another. You will all hold a special place in my heart. You have proven that there are great humans in this world.
Matt's diagnosis changed our daily life in a very real way, and our household has been living on one income while we wait for disability to be approved. We have now been waiting three years for a disability hearing, and the financial strain has continued the entire time.
The funds raised will help cover Matt's ongoing treatment while he is unable to work. Because this is a chronic condition, these needs continue over time, and any support would mean so much to our family.
This is not easy for me to ask for help but, it's needed as I have exhausted all other options. If you are able to help Matt, please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser. Your support would help ease the pressure on our family and make it possible for Matt to keep getting the treatment he needs.
Sincerely,
Jen
