Hi Everyone, this is Matt Burke, my life partner for the past 6+ years. He was diagnosed with Rectal cancer in February 2024. His Cancer was initially staged at two, but after starting radiation, his lymph nodes were involved, staging him at a 3. He has been receiving his treatment at Mayo Clinic, which is a huge blessing. He sailed through 6 weeks of daily radiation, giving him optimism that fighting cancer was not so bad. He has now transitioned into 6 rounds of Oral and IV Chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is a whole other beast and has been extremely tough physically, mentally, and emotionally (Kudos to all the cancer survivors). After IV Chemo, there will be additional scans to determine if surgery is needed. At any rate, the bills keep piling up and this adds stress to the healing journey.

During this difficult fight for his life, Matt was let go from his job. Matt was consistently a top producer and was blindsided by the layoff. So much so, he is pursuing a discrimination case as we believe he was let go as a result of having cancer and the company not offering any FMLA or ANY leave of absence options.

Being that his treatment is at Mayo Clinic (only takes private insurance), he signed up for Cobra which is a whopping $1650 a month. He is in the process of appealing his denial for unemployment as well. He has exhausted all savings trying to make ends meet and keep on top of monthly bills. Matt has been humbled through this process. Asking for help has put him in a vulnerable position which is all part of the cancer journey. Any donations and prayers are greatly appreciated as we try and get Matt healthy and help him make ends meet in the meantime.
