Hi everyone – it's never easy asking for help. My close friend Jani and her partner Matt Brandt desperately need any support you can provide, if you are able.
On Friday, May 13th, Matt was in a severe accident while riding on his motorcycle. As he was safely crossing a busy intersection, a truck maneuvered incorrectly and struck Matt, sending his body across the intersection and shattering his left leg, among other injuries. Matt was rushed to the ER where he endured numerous surgeries and blood transfusions to keep him stabilized. Matt suffered 5 fractures in his left leg from his foot to his femur – he was released from the hospital after a week and is now at home trying to begin a long road to recovery.
Matt and his family are incredibly grateful he survived this accident; however, this is a devastating event and will be life-changing. Matt will be immobilized for 3-6 months requiring around-the-clock care, and his full recovery is projected in 1-2 years minimum. He is unable to work and is temporarily closing his business until further notice. Jani is also taking time away from work to care for Matt around the clock.
The driver that struck Matt does not have a license and is not insured. Aside from a preexisting warrant out for their arrest, this person faces legal consequences for the accident. Unfortunately, the chance to collect any financial support for the accident is unlikely, given this person’s background.
Matt is a highly talented carpenter and creates beautiful pieces of natural wood furniture in addition to the design and installation of hardwood flooring. Jani has worked for over 10 years achieving her master’s in psychology, and hoped to complete her licensing exam early this summer. All of this has come to a stop to respond to this sudden, traumatic life event - leaving them with virtually no means of income for the foreseeable future.
On behalf of my good friends, I am asking for any support you can provide, big or small. Contributions will go towards Matt’s medical expenses, required outpatient treatment and home care, food and the bare necessities of everyday life during Matt’s recovery.
Your help truly makes a difference, and we appreciate the love and support from everyone so much during this difficult time. Thank you.
