I am writing to request financial assistance for my friend and coworker Matt Clark for medical insurance coverage as he continues to navigate the challenges of his cancer diagnosis and ongoing treatments.
In February of 2024, he was diagnosed with cancer, and he began chemotherapy and radiation therapy on August 19, 2024. The treatments necessitated his transition to short-term disability, which lasted until February 9, 2025. Following the completion of his chemotherapy and radiation, he underwent surgery, and his recovery period is ongoing.
As of February 10, 2025, his short-term disability coverage expired, and he was transitioned to long-term disability. However, he has recently been informed that his UPMC health insurance will no longer cover him while he is on long-term disability. He has been advised to acquire COBRA insurance to maintain coverage.
Unfortunately, the COBRA insurance premiums, carry an estimated out-of-pocket cost of $5,000, and create a significant financial burden for him during this already difficult time. His long-term disability runs through August 2025, which coincides with his medical treatment and healing process, making it critical for him to have continued healthcare coverage.
I want to emphasize that Matt is not one to seek assistance unless absolutely necessary even then not at all. However, the financial strain this situation has created is overwhelming, and any help you can provide would greatly alleviate the burden that he is facing.
He will be deeply grateful for your time and consideration of this request. Thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging period.
Thank you
