Support Math and Figure Skating Program for Girls
Tax deductible
SKATE (Solving Kinesthetically and Transforming Education) for Girls is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in the Northshore that combines figure skating and math to promote academic success. Our mission is to spark more middle school girls' interest in STEM fields to ultimately close the gender gap. We envision a world of confident and passionate women, where there is no longer a gender gap in STEM. The impact of our programs thus far has been a 58% average improvement in math scores and a 20% average increase in students’ comfort about participating in math class.
Starting in early February, we will host a free six-week leadership program at the Centennial Ice Rink in Wilmette, IL. During the leadership program, students are going to explore fun math topics, advanced/beginner figure skating skills, science/coding hands-on projects, careers within the STEM field, what it means to be a leader, and how to be a good leader. SKATE for Girls programs are free of charge for all students attending. Proceeds will go to funding this and future programs by covering material costs, renting the ice, and compensating our volunteers.
