We are the Gay Latino Collective and we are fundraising funds to support Mateo's family and loved ones in these very difficult times.

Our dearly beloved amigo Mateo Gomez passed away on Saturday, December 17th. While the initial shock was paralyzingly painful, it was followed by an even more painful internal barrage of questions from "What happened?" to "Why him?". We may never know the answers to all of these questions, but after hours in disbelief, tears and sorrow, with this fundraiser, we are choosing to focus on the endless positive memories we shared with him, and on all the love everyone who knew him had towards him.

Mateo's calm demeanor, collected and eloquent expression, dry sense of humor and ever-present values for the legally just will forever bring smiles to our faces. We know that he touched many of you with his kindness, love, and humor; and now we hope we can give some of that love and support back to his family with this fundraiser.

Funds will be accessed directly by the Gomez family, and we will keep everyone posted on news regarding the fundraising and other information the Gomez family might want to share with the community. The Gay Latino Collective is also planning a celebration of life in honor of our dear Mateo. We will announce details soon and invite you all to join us.

In addition, we encourage everyone to take some time to love yourself and those around you just a little harder. We know this news is not easy so above all, be patient with yourself as you process through it.
