On Tuesday, November 25th, Mateo was at work when he suddenly collapsed. His incredible coworkers immediately rushed to his aid and called 911. When paramedics arrived, he was unresponsive. On the way to the hospital, his heart stopped multiple times due to cardiac arrest, forcing the paramedics to perform life saving procedures.

Our family rushed to the hospital, praying he was still alive. When the doctors sat me (his sister) down, they told me they weren’t sure if he would make it through the night.

Despite this awful news, Mateo fought hard and pulled through. He was intubated and unconscious for 24 hours, and when he woke up, he didn’t remember anything and was extremely frightened and anxious.

As the days have passed, Mateo remains physically weak but his spirit is strong and hopeful. Anyone that knows him, knows he is a light in everyone he meets life and is always willing to help anyone in need. He will need surgery soon, and as many families do, we are facing a difficult financial time
