Mateo, Sharon’s beloved son, was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (High Risk) exactly two years and one month after his sister Maggie’s own cancer diagnosis. The odds of two children in one family being diagnosed with different cancers are 1 in 81,000, and yet Sharon’s family has faced this unimaginable reality. After Maggie rang the bell to mark the end of her treatment, their world was shattered once again when Mateo received his diagnosis. Since August, Mateo has undergone a port insertion, completed induction without achieving remission, and finished his second month of consolidation. The strength and resilience of both children have been a guiding light during this incredibly difficult time.
The funds raised will help cover mounting medical bills, weekly gas and car expenses for the hour-long drives to the hospital—sometimes multiple times a week—as well as living expenses and keeping the kids entertained and safe during periods of isolation. These practical needs are a daily challenge, and Sharon’s family is doing everything possible to support Mateo and Maggie through this journey.
Asking for help again is heartbreaking for Sharon, but the support received during Maggie’s treatment and over the past month has meant the world. Any contribution, big or small, will make a difference for Mateo and his family. They are forever grateful for the kindness and generosity shown to them, more than words can express.
