On Friday, December 1st, 2023, Mat Whitworth went to a local clinic after experiencing dizziness and fainting episodes. After tests were run, it was discovered that Mat had a growth on his brain, which is now known to be Glioblastoma. He was taken to St. Vincent in Sherwood, Arkansas for more testing and surgery was done to remove the tumor. After spending several days in ICU and in his own room, Mat has now been moved to a rehabilitation center closer to home. Terri has been at Mat's side the entire time and is now driving from her home to the rehabilitation center everyday to aid in his recovery. Mat is still suffering from a good bit of pain and has trouble with his left leg since the tumor was in the part of the brain that controls motor skills. Once released from the rehabilitation center, Mat will immediately begin atleast 6 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation to see if it will have any affect on cancer cells that remain.
Any funds raised will be used to help with medical bills as this will be a heavy burden with the medical bills. Whether you know Mat and Terri as teachers, colleagues, family, or friends you know the impact that they have had on your life or the life of choral students all over Arkansas. If you feel led, please make a donation to our friends, Mat and Terri Whitworth.
