Two weeks ago, our very dear friends, Jenn Duncan and Stacey Book took their beautiful 9-year old son Mason to the hospital and discovered a mass around his heart, lungs, and throat. After extensive tests, Mason Duncan-Book was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma and Leukemia. This strong and brave boy has been given an optimistic prognosis, but it will be a long road ahead as they have discovered that the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes and bone marrow. The doctors have outlined an intense chemotherapy treatment plan that will include treatment for almost three years, a process that will be very tough on both his body and on the Duncan-Book family as a whole (including Madeline, his 6-year-old sister).
Because this treatment will involve extensive time at the hospital and will require constant medical attention, Jenn is not able to commit to her job during this time, and had to leave her current employment so that she and Stacey can give round-the-clock care to Mason. This has put an extraordinary financial strain on the family, as they still need to cover all of the costs of a family of four- rent, insurance, utilities (now higher because they will be at home all of the time), food, school supplies (Mason will be home-schooled for the next year), and all of the additional expenses, such as all of the extensive out-of-pocket medical needs, plus copays, medications, gas to cover all of the trips to and from the hospital and different doctors and pharmacies, and a housekeeper once a week, which is a medical necessity given his immunocompromised state.
Please understand if you’ve reached out to give your well-wishes that they are receiving and loving all the support, but are not always easily able to respond promptly. In the face of all of this heartbreaking hardship, Stacey and Jenn are determined to keep their home an uplifting place of healing, laughter, and love.
We are asking for your donation, so Mason and his family can get all the necessary help and support they need during this very difficult time. Your help will ease the burden of their expenses and allow them to focus on their love for sweet Mason, so that he can get back to his wonderful life of being a singing, dancing, playing, sweet little boy.
PLEASE NOTE: If you know of any potentially large donations, please reiterate to the donor that anything over 10k will be taxable, so donating in chunks is advised.
And a big special thanks to Michael Book, Mason's grandpa, who has volunteered to manage this account.
