My name is Brittania McKay.
I’m reaching out today to ask for your support in helping my family, extended relatives, and neighbours in the small farming community of Mason River, Northern Clarendon, Jamaica. I am originally from Mason River in Jamaica, but I currently live in South Florida. Because of the location of my community, aid and relief often arrive slowly or not at all.
When Hurricane Melissa struck, it left devastating damage in its wake especially for my family and our neighbours. My father and cousins had their roofs destroyed. Rainwater and debris further damaged the interior of the house. They lost almost all of their furniture, clothes, and appliances.
Currently, seven of my cousins are displaced. They include three young women, two teenage boys, a five-year-old boy and a one-year-old baby.
As of writing there is no electricity and barely any cell services in these areas. But the airports and ports are open.
We will use the funds to:
Send cash directly so they can purchase building supplies and other materials to repair their roof.
Pack barrels in South Florida and ship them to Jamaica, filled with food, clothing, hygiene products, small appliances, stationery for children, and other essential supplies to be shared among our neighbours.
And thirdly cover additional logistics costs: shipping fees, customs/clearance, transport within Jamaica.
Thank you for your support
