Some of you reading our story will be strangers and some will be friends and family. Regardless of if you know us or not, I come as a man asking for help for the love of his life. My name is Billy and this remarkable woman I speak of is Mary.
Mary’s story began 3 years ago in November of 2022. She is a registered nurse and was working the job she loved and devoted her whole adult life to. She went to work one night and was attacked by a patient that she was trying to keep safe and her whole life was changed forever.
Due to her attack, she has had to endure 6 surgeries, countless hours of physical therapy, and now has permanent residual disabilities and disease processes. Two of the most damaging permanent disabilities she now suffers from are POTS - Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and CRPS - Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.
POTS is a complex disability that affects multiple systems of the body but the simplest way to explain it, is Mary’s heart rate will go from 60 up to the 160s just from doing simple things like standing up out of bed, trying to walk to the bathroom, or sometimes doing nothing at all. This causes her to pass out multiple times a day which she has suffered multiple concussions and broken bones. This also causes her breathing problems due to poor blood perfusion in her body.
CRPS was caused from the trauma she experience and nerve damage. CRPS is the most painful disease process known to man according to all medical research. This not only causes her extreme pain but has also caused her to start losing muscle tone which has now lead to muscle atrophy in her leg, foot, and upper extremity. It has also spread to her spine, and multiple internal organs.
I am reaching out to anyone that is willing to help us. Mary was accepted into a very selective program at Mayo Clinic that she has been on a waiting list for for 6 months. We get to leave the first week of February for 2.5 weeks of invasive testing and consultations with some of the best experts in the nation. The hopes of attending this program is to attempt to give Mary the best quality of life we can through a personalized treatment program. We are also hoping to get Mary a new, better quality wheel chair that will better suit her needs.
Anyone that knows Mary, knows what kind of person she is. She is so kind and loving. She would do anything for anyone. She is the best mother and partner anyone could ever want. We would love to be able to see her have good days again where she can be up and walk around without so much pain and struggles.
Even if you cannot donate financially, if you could keep Mary in your thoughts and prayers, we would beyond appreciate it. Thank you so much.
