UPDATES!!
Thank you all for your generosity and support, I am beyond grateful.
At the hearing Euthanasia was taken off the table (thanks to the pressure that Cranston received on our behalf).
There were some strict penalties put in place before Bailey and Neville can be released.
1. I need $100k liability policy. (I got this Friday it will be approx $1500 a year)
2. The house must have “beware of vicious dogs signs”
3. Penalty fees for each dog at $1000 each plus possible charges for holding them in quarantine.
4. This is the big one and perhaps the most frustrating and expensive. We need to build a six sided enclosure in the yard. This is the only way that they will be let outside. They must be leashed and muzzled to go on their one permitted outing to the vets office.
This means no walks even with a muzzle. We are working on building a small enclosure to get the dogs out of quarantine as soon as possible. We will be adding to it to create a larger enclosure so that they will have room to exercise, potty and be able to play. The exact cost of this is still unclear.
Thank you all for the outpouring of support and love. It has been so wonderful to see the kindness band support from everyone. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I will send more updates as I get them.
Love
Mary, Bailey, and of course Neville
Hi there, I am embarrassed to even ask for help, but right now I desperately need it.
I am a teacher, and a dog mom to two amazing rescues. Bailey, 7 yrs, and Neville, 5 years old. Too say that they are my everything is an understatement.
Bailey is a Great Pyrenees/ Australian Cattledog/ mystery mix. I adopted her at 6 months old after she had been found next to the body of her mother and dead siblings in Arkansas. She is a brilliant and beautiful girl who loves all people especially children.
When I adopted her she had some anxiety issues and then we were both attacked by our former landlord’s mastiff which led her to be very distressed around all other dogs, except of course Neville.
Neville is the most gentle soul I have ever met. He reminds me of Winnie the Pooh in dog form. He is a 5 year old lab mix who carries a stuffed animal wherever he goes. He is the opposite of Bailey in many ways- he loves all animals and tries to befriend every creature he meets. He has tried making friends with bunnies and cats that he sees on walks or that have snuck into our yard. When my mother’s blind 19 year old bichon was still alive, Neville acted as her seeing eye dog- making sure she found her bed, food, and navigating the back yard. He is the ultimate gentle giant.
On September 3 the landscaper left the gate to the backyard wide open. My father watches the dogs while I am at work, and let the dogs out to play in the backyard. Unfortunately he was too late to realize the gate was open (we have a padlock on the gate). A cat apparently ran by and Bailey ran down the street after it with Neville following.
She bit the cats leg and it needed to go to the vet. (We are paying for the cat’s bills).
Both dogs are now currently in quarantine awaiting a hearing. The animal control officer said that both Bailey and Neville might be euthanized.
I consulted with an attorney who found several discrepancies in the law and consequences that they are being held to. They are being charged under the section if they bit a person or killed an animal.
The heartbreaking thing is that Neville is innocent and guilty of getting out of the yard.
I have hired an attorney to help with the case, but unfortunately with the fees, penalties and veterinary care this is going to be a very costly endeavor. I just started an amazing new teaching position, but it unfortunately pays a lot less than my prior job. My parents are retired and on a fixed income. And the two dogs are my mother’s daily companions when I am at school. She has Multiple Sclerosis and is not able to get out much anymore.
We just installed another padlock on the gate and the landscaper will no longer mow the backyard.
I hate asking for help, but I can’t imagine life without my pups. Any help is greatly appreciated. The initial fee for the lawyer is $3,500. And then the fee to release each dog could be up to $1000 each with additional court costs.

It broke my heart visiting them in the shelter as Neville was barking and crying- he never barks, not even when someone knocks on the door. Bailey was being a good big sister and trying to nuzzle him from the adjacent kennel, even though she could not see him. I am hoping to get them both home safe in my arms where they belong.
thank you
Mary
