I never imagined I would be writing this, but life has taken an unexpected turn. Ten months after a routine mammogram, I discovered a lump in my breast and was diagnosed with breast cancer in early November. The news was overwhelming, and I’ve since learned that my ongoing treatment (I’ve already had a breast biopsy, four mammograms, ultrasound and a surgical lumpectomy!) will include chemotherapy, radiation, and a long course of anti-endocrine drugs that could last five to ten years. The journey ahead is daunting, but I am determined to face it with hope and strength.
Adding to the challenge, I was recently laid off from my full-time job. This not only meant losing my income and my pension for retirement, but also my secondary health insurance. While my primary insurance covers much of my medical care, my out-of-pocket costs for treatment over the next two years will be significant. (Over $25k estimated not including loss of income) The financial strain is real, and it’s difficult to ask for help, especially when I’ve always preferred to try and help and support others in their times of need.
Mark and I are incredibly grateful for anyone who is able to help financially. Asking for support is not easy, but your kindness and generosity would mean the world to us during this difficult time.
Thank you for considering a donation and for being part of our journey toward healing and hope.
Love,
Mary
