Steve Doran’s Hope of a Liver Transplant

My name is Mary Kay Doran. I am married to this wonderful man, Steve Doran. Steve has been diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis. We have been to numerous doctors, and the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville will be testing him for a liver transplant. The “test” is a 5-day process. We are both retired, me earlier than hoped for. I was injured and put on disability in 2016. During my injury and recovery Steve took care of me and our dogs. Now we live primarily on our Social Security checks. Even with Medicare Advantage, copays are high. His 15-minute needle biopsy left us with over a $600 copay. We need help. Steve is a very good man, he worked all his life, rarely drank and is now weakened by his liver failing. It’s my turn to take care of him for a change. It is going to be a long process, and if he isn’t approved for the transplant, he will need medications to help manage the illness. There is no cure. I cannot imagine my life without him. Took me 50 years to find this wonderful husband. He’s a father, grandfather and just recently a great grandfather. Our grandson and his wife are both in the Air Force stationed near Las Vegas. Baby McKenna is 4 months old. Steve desperately wants to meet her but currently doesn’t have the strength to make the trip. We need all the help we can get, including prayers.
