Support Mary Jo Smith After Husband's Passing

My name is Mary Jo Smith. I just lost my husband from cancer on July 10th. He was the love of my life and I have known him since I was 15 when we dated in Jr high school. He passed away so suddenly without us being prepared. We both are on disability.

After his passing, I was expecting to get some of his income at the first of the month to pay my rent but found out I have to wait for an appointment on September 6th to see how much I will get. So, I won't receive any of his until after the appointment. My check will cover most of the other bills except for the rent. I don't need much to eat. I will survive as long as I have a place to stay and pay my bills.

I called my landlord to see if he would work with me until I get the payment in September and would be able to get things caught up. He was unsympathetic and told me he needs his rent money when it is due. He also informed me he was raising the rent $100 more a month. I can't believe someone would not have empathy for someone who just lost her husband. All I'm asking for is help to pay my rent so I have a place to live. I have never had to do something like this before and I am heartbroken because I am asking for help. Anything you could donate would greatly be appreciated. Please share. Thank you.
