Support Mary Jo and Suzanne During This Time

Mary Jo Severance was an extraordinary nurse here at Fairview Ridges Hospital. She became a nurse in 1970. Her career as a nurse began at St. Mary’s in Minneapolis, Minnesota. From there, she worked as a Nurse in Fairbanks, Alaska for 13 years. Mary Jo spent most of her nursing career here at Ridges Hospital. Anyone who knows her would tell you she has been at Ridges since the day it opened, giving her the title of one of the “golden girls” and “silver fox”. She worked at Ridges for 36 years as a bedside Nurse.

Mary Jo recently retired so that she could care for her daughter Suzanne. Sadly, Suzanne who is 42 years old was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy. In October of 2023, Suzanne received a triple negative scan after undergoing chemotherapy. Unfortunately, in June of 2024, Mary Jo and Suzanne heard the worst news, the cancer had returned and spread to Suzanne’s lungs. This led Mary Jo to the decision to retire earlier than expected.

Mary Jo spent many years caring for patient’s. Every patient she came into contact with was in great hands. Mary Jo treated every patient with the utmost compassion, dignity, and integrity. Not only did Mary Jo have a positive impact on her patients, she also left a great impact with those she worked with. Mary Jo spent many years caring for others without hesitation.
