Help Mary Beth Fight Breast Cancer & Recover
Hi friends, family, and compassionate strangers,
My name is Mary Beth Eversole, and my husband is Brett Eversole. We live in Loveland, Colorado with our six sweet kitties, where we enjoy gardening, nature walks, puzzles, movies, and building Legos together. I’m a self-employed performer and teacher of voice, piano, acting, and voiceover, and I pour my heart into my work and my students.
In December last year, I felt a strange pulling sensation near my armpit. When it was still happening a month later in January, I decided to trust my intuition after a good friend urged me to go get it checked. I met with my doctor and underwent a breast MRI. What followed was three months of testing, scans, and biopsies—and in April, I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer.
On June 3rd, I had a double mastectomy, where the surgical team discovered that the invasive carcinoma had doubled in size and there were other DCIS lesions present. Though the surgery went well, I experienced minor complications due to a condition I have called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome—which made coming out of anesthesia difficult and caused a few allergic reactions to medications. I had to spend the night in the hospital. Things improved, and I am moving into the end of my recovery from this first surgery.
Now, we are preparing for a long and difficult journey ahead. Starting July 21st through January 2026, I will be undergoing chemotherapy and will have a second reconstructive surgery along with hormone treatment. The surgery will require weeks of recovery and time off of work.
Why We Need Help
My mom was able to substitute teach for 34 of my students during my four weeks of post-mastectomy recovery, but she won’t be able to step in again during chemo or my next surgery recovery. Unfortunately, this means I will need to take extended time off from teaching and performing at various periods over the next 6 months.
Brett works hourly at a food establishment, and he’ll also need to take unpaid time off to help care for me during my recovery. We're applying for assistance through Colorado’s FAMLI program, but it only covers up to 70-75% of my lost income—and even with that, we’re facing significant financial strain.
We rely on both our incomes to meet our basic monthly expenses, and we’re now also navigating medical bills, co-pays, and costs for essentials not covered by insurance—like a wig, so I can continue to audition and promote my work when I feel well enough.
How You Can Help
We’re turning to our community again—who so graciously stood by us during the mastectomy—to ask for your continued support during this next stage of treatment.
Your donations will help cover:
• Lost wages from time off work
• Medical expenses not covered by insurance
• Recovery support items like a wig and nutritional needs
• Living expenses while I heal and Brett cares for me
If you’re not in a place to donate, sharing this page means the world to us. Every bit of support counts, whether it's financial help, a kind word, or simply spreading the word.
Thank you for walking beside us as we navigate this challenging time. We are endlessly grateful for the love and community that surrounds us.
With hope and gratitude,
Mary Beth & Brett Eversole
