I’m the niece of Marvin Bernheim, also known as "Freddy".
If you know my Uncle Fred - or like me, lucky enough to spend most of your years alongside him, then you already know the kind of person he is.
He is thoughtful, dependable, and endlessly caring. He’s the one who always answers the phone, shows up when you need him, and put others before himself without ever expecting anything in return.
Over the last several years, Fred has been quietly fighting kidney failure. It has been a constant and exhausting battle with treatments, hospital stays, and the toll that this illness takes on the body. He came very close to receiving a kidney transplant some years back, but unforeseen complications made it impossible to move forward.
Throughout 2025, he spent much of his time in and out of the hospital and rehabilitation facilities. Despite being in constant pain and facing several injuries, and serious health scares, he has remained the same person we all love - joking with nurses, calling his loved ones, and faithfully watching his favorite game shows. His strength and spirit have never wavered.
Unfortunately, due to his age and overall condition, receiving a kidney is unlikely and we received the difficult news that he now requires immediate long-term care. After carefully reviewing all available options, paying out of pocket for assisted living is the best and safest choice to ensure he receives the care and comfort he deserves. I’ve found a facility that can meet his needs, but even one of the more affordable options comes with significant monthly costs.
This expense was unexpected, and we were not prepared to cover such a large financial commitment so quickly. All funds raised through this GoFundMe will go directly toward Fred's assisted living and ongoing care costs.
Any support, whether through a donation or simply sharing, means more than we can express. Thank you for helping us make sure he is cared for during this chapter of his life, just as he has cared for so many others!
