Thank you for visiting ‘Support Martyn through cancer’, our fundraising space for one of the most generous, genuine, one-of-a-kind people we have the privilege of calling a friend.

On 29 May 2026, at just 52, Martyn was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. Stage 4 means the cancer has spread beyond the bowel to other parts of the body. It is advanced and, heartbreakingly, incurable. At this stage, treatment focuses on quality of life and as much precious time as possible with the people he loves most. In typical Martyn fashion, he's facing it head on. Knowing him, he'll try to fit a gig in between appointments.

He has already completed a course of radiotherapy and is preparing to start chemotherapy. We want to make sure he has every option available to him, whether that's specialist treatments and support, complementary therapies, or simply things that bring him comfort and time to focus on what matters.

Just a few months before his diagnosis, Martyn was made redundant after 27 years of teaching at Claire's Court. After dedicating so much of his life to helping others, it really couldn't have come at a worse time.

Martyn is many things to many people. A teacher who shaped the lives of three generations of children. A musician who has entertained tens of thousands, bringing rock star energy to every stage he's stepped on. A loyal friend. A much-loved son, brother and uncle. And above all, a steady, loving rock to his wife Jules and stepdaughter Delilah to whom he means the world.

His impact runs deeper than most people will ever know. Meet a parent whose child Martyn taught, and you'll hear it. How he believed in their kid wholeheartedly, how his generosity changed everything. That's not just teaching. That's changing the trajectory of someone's life. Of course he'd brush that off and change the subject, but he’s done that quietly, without fuss, hundreds of times over.

Our goal is to raise £25,000 to help ease the financial burden of cancer, support Martyn with costs beyond those covered by the NHS and give him and his family as much freedom and choice as possible in the months ahead.

Every pound is a gift of time, hope, and possibility. Martyn has spent a lifetime giving to others, his students, his audiences, his friends, his family. Now it's our turn.
