I am the wife of a 30-plus-year Volunteer Firefighter, David Dyess, aka Marty Dyess!
I am not sure if I should even ask for help, but you don't know if you don't ask. Marty had throat cancer back in 2019/2020. He beat it. It was rough, but he made it through. With the chemo and radiation treatments he went through, the side effects have now made it difficult for him to swallow, breathe, and get nutrients to his body due to damage to his throat and vocal cords. His vocal cords are only opening at 30% of what they are supposed to, and he is having silent aspiration.
He has, as of March 26th, 2026, undergone surgery to stretch his larynx and throat. That surgery went well, per his doctors at Wellstar MCG in Augusta, GA.
He will have to go again to have another procedure just the same, unknown when.
Our insurance, of course, did not pay for the entire amount, so we are struggling to make ends meet. Now we have a huge balance to get paid before his next surgery. We have applied for financial assistance through the hospital; it is still pending. He hasn't been able to work due to these complications that have disabled him right now.
I myself have severe health problems and am unable to work. I have applied for many jobs in the last 6 months; no one wants to hire me.
I am humbling myself and asking if there is anyone who would be able to donate so that we can get this medical bill paid so that he can have whatever else needs to be done in the coming future to help him get back healthy.
He has given and volunteered his services to all of Greene County, Georgia, for over 30 years. Right now, he cannot physically go and help his community like he once did, and it is heartbreaking to watch him go through this. Please, even if you cannot donate, send him a text or FB message. We need all the love, support, and encouragement we can get right now. I would like to thank you all for your time and your donation.
