8-year-old Martín is waiting for a life-saving heart transplant — and today, we’re asking for your help to give him a chance at life.
Hello everyone
This is very difficult to write, but today I’m asking for help for someone very special to me.
His name is Martín. He is 8 years old and is currently in the process of being placed on the waiting list for a heart transplant. Martín was born with a complex congenital heart condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, and he currently lives with a pacemaker and a mechanical valve. This transplant is his chance to continue living and to have a better quality of life, but the process is incredibly difficult and something no child should ever have to endure.
This family is very close to me, and I have witnessed firsthand everything they are carrying right now. Both his mother and father are Martín’s primary caregivers. His mother has been unable to work normally for a long time because Martín needs constant care and support throughout this journey. His father has also had to adapt his work life around Martín’s condition, which has deeply impacted the family financially. Today, nearly every part of their lives revolves around caring for him, while carrying an enormous emotional burden.
In addition, Martín must constantly travel from one city to another for medical appointments and treatments. He currently uses a wheelchair because he becomes exhausted very easily, and even transportation is physically demanding for him. Something as simple as taking public transportation can become extremely difficult. Despite all of this, his parents do everything possible to give him as normal a childhood as they can. Martín still attends school, but every single day requires tremendous effort.
If the transplant arrives in time, it will be a huge step forward… but also the beginning of a very demanding new chapter. After surgery, Martín will need to take medications that suppress his immune system, which means he will need to live in a carefully maintained environment to protect his health. This includes strict hygiene measures, disinfecting spaces, improving his bedroom, replacing mattresses, and obtaining basic items such as dehumidifiers, since humidity and mold can become serious health risks for him.
On top of this, there are many medical expenses that are not fully covered by GES (Chile’s public health coverage system), along with medications, constant medical checkups, and ongoing treatment costs.
Today, I’m asking for help from the bottom of my heart. Any contribution, no matter how small, makes a meaningful difference.
And if you are unable to donate, simply sharing this campaign is also a real and powerful way to help.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for supporting Martín and his family.
