What was meant to be a fun, carefree summer vacation for our nephew 15-year-old Martin "Pipis" Silva, quickly turned into a nightmare no one could have imagined. During a trip to our family's hometown in Oaxaca, Martin suddenly experienced a rapid decline in health. What seemed like a stomach bug soon turned into a medical crisis, leaving Martin hospitalized in Oaxaca with no clear answers. In the blink of an eye, this young boy's world was turned upside down, and his parents, Martin and Ana, found themselves grappling with the reality that their son was facing a life-threatening battle.
With the situation growing more critical by the day, Martin and Ana were forced to make one of the toughest decisions of their lives—to medically evacuate their son back to the U.S. for a fighting chance at survival. Despite not being covered by insurance, there was no other choice; they had to bring him home, hoping that with the right care, he could pull through. After a challenging and uncertain journey, he finally arrived at Rady's Children's Hospital in San Diego on July 1st. After countless tests, he was diagnosed with Leukemia.
Throughout this overwhelming ordeal, Martin’s parents have never left his side. They’ve held his hand through every moment of fear, uncertainty, and pain, never once wavering in their love and devotion. Their hearts break as they watch their son fight for his life, and every day is a new test of their strength. The financial burden of medical evacuation, lost wages from being unable to work, and the long road of treatments ahead is something no parent should have to face alone. This journey will be long, costly, and filled with unimaginable challenges, but Martin’s parents are determined to do whatever it takes to save their son. They are not alone in this fight, though—there is an entire community rallying behind them, and your support can help make a difference.
We are reaching out to you, our friends, family, and compassionate strangers, to help ease some of the financial weight of this journey. If you feel moved by Martin's story and have the means to support his fight against Leukemia, any contribution—big or small—will make a huge impact. Your donation will help cover the cost of the medical evacuation, ongoing hospital bills, and the expenses Martin’s parents face while they remain by his side. Martin is just a 15-year-old boy, but he is surrounded by an incredibly strong and loving community of people who want nothing more than to see him recover and thrive. Please consider contributing in any way you can and keep Martin and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this terrifying and uncertain road ahead.
