Dear friends,
A beloved member of the Boston University School of Theology community, Martin Mugerwa (STH Class of 2021), was wrongfully apprehended by U.S. Border officials when he and friends from church took a wrong turn on their way to visit Father Paul Mukasa in Buffalo, another STH alum. Mugerwa was transported to an ICE detention center in Texas, where he was held for three weeks before he was released on bail. He is safely home with his wife Rebecca and two small children.
Mugerwa is a mental health chaplain, a lay leader in the Ugandan Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of Boston, and a friend to many of us.
Mugerwa’s detention put a face on what is happening to many under the current administration. He awaits a trial in May and is undergoing processes to secure his case for political asylum. The legal services are expensive, and we would like to support him in raising money to off-set these legal costs.
We invite you to contribute whatever you can.
