Meet Martha — the soul of the home we’ve been staying at in Colombia. For 22 years, she has worked tirelessly as the cook, caretaker, and quiet backbone of this Airbnb. But she’s more than that. She’s become our family. A true light in our lives. A woman who leads with love.

Martha is a single mother supporting her son through pharmaceutical school — completely on her own. She pays his full tuition out of pocket each semester, sacrificing every personal pleasure and putting every penny toward his education. She does all of this while earning Colombia’s minimum wage — the equivalent of just over $300 USD per month.

Colombia is a beautiful country, but the economic conditions are harsh. The value of U.S. currency stretches far here, and even the smallest donation can make a huge difference in Martha’s life. She works day and night, and still finds the energy to collect cans from the trash to sell for extra cash. This is the kind of selflessness she lives by.
