This white fluffy beast is Marshmallow. He is 14 years old now, give or take a couple of days. He is a great hunter, and he has brought us many gifts, from mice, chipmunks, and squirrels. Lately, he has even brought us a couple of rabbits. He has never once bothered our chickens. Lucky for us.
Sometime on Wednesday night, it appeared that he was struck by a car. His back left leg appeared broken, and he had a large gash on his left side, above his back leg. Other than that, he appeared fine. He probably just got clipped by a car.
We spent 6 & 1/2 hours at the emergency vet's office.
After all the tests, it was discovered that he had a small bruise on his left lung, nothing serious, and that his leg was not broken. It appeared that a predatory animal got ahold of him and caused the gash on his side. The reason why he looked like he had a broken leg was because the animal severed his sciatic nerve.
The vet said that we could keep the leg the way it is, and maybe, just maybe, it might get a little better. The chances of that are very small. If we choose to keep the leg attached, he could damage it by dragging it, or some animals will check off a bad leg.
We chose to have the leg removed, the gash will be stitched up, and he will return home to us tomorrow.
Thanks to Ocean State Veterinary Services in RI.
All in all, he is a very lucky cat.
We will be very thankful if you choose to donate, and if you can’t, please share this GoFundMe!
We will keep you updated on our 3-legged kitty. He will be getting picked up today!
