Hello from the crew of JUST KEEP WRITING Podcast. Today we are starting a Go-Fund-Me for our founder, co-host, recording and audio engineer wizard Marshall Carr.

Marshall has worked tirelessly building community through his work as a teacher, community advocate in his town of Fort Bragg, California and being a founder of Just Keep Writing Podcast.  He is a high school teacher of English & Creative Writing, husband and father to two amazing teenagers Have you listened to the interview on Just Keep Writing: Episode 64 - Raising My Trans Son with his amazing wife, Katie? If not-please dive in. That will give a tiny sliver of a kind of dad he is to his family.

In his role as teacher, he has helped create the Spectrum Club which aims to create a more inclusive, safe school environment for all students; specifically people of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies.

In the last eight years Marshall has put as much energy as possible into both his own writing and building a writing community with others. His first step into the world was attending the WRITING EXCUSES cruise in 2018. As fates would have it, there he met our other founder Nick Bright. The friendship was destined from the start! Together, Marshall and Nick created a Just Keep Writing Podcast, a space for marginalized voices to be heard while discussing craft, supporting other writers, interviewing our favorite authors, and building a community that continues to grow and support each other.

However, Marshall has connected with an agent during Worldcon 2025, who has read the manuscript and came back with a revise and resubmit. They had encouraging feedback and took the time to give examples of what still needed to be worked on. While any rejection can be hard, we know Marshall is an outstanding writer that needs help to get this novel to the next level. The agent suggested a few tips: work with an editor, get more peer feedback and then rewrite before submitting to them again in a few months.

Now, it's Marshall who needs our support to enable  his writing career to grow. Recently Daniel Jose Older has opened up for developmental edits. Daniel would be the best editor and teacher to take Marshall’s novel to the place that it needs to be.

We are asking our writing community to help make this possible for Marshall, who has given countless hours to others to help them perfect their craft. In addition, we are trying to create a fund to help Marshall attend World Con 2026, apply to Tin House, Grub Street, and any additional writing event through 2027.

Marshall has tirelessly worked as a co-host and audio engineer for Just Keep Writing without any payment for his substantial labor. While our patreon covers the costs of the podcast platform,   Marshall has yet to be paid for all the hard work he has done over the years. This is one way we can begin to reciprocate the care and attention he's shown to so many others. So please--support a fellow writer, artist, and community advocate if you can.
