Support Roo's FIP Treatment

Donation protected
My name is Marnie. On August 12 I came home to find my 9-month-old kitten disoriented and had to rush her to the ER. She is currently in the ICU with FIP, which is a mutation of the feline coronavirus that appears in kittens. She is currently on medication that is not covered by insurance as it is not FDA approved.

This disease has impacted all of her organs and she will be needing a cardiologist consult and most likely a lot of care in the future. Any help is appreciated as insurance will only cover so much and her recovery is going to be long.

Update 8/14. Roos cardiologist found no signs of structural damage but she does still have fluid in her chest and abdomen. They are giving her a blood transfusion because her red blood cell count keeps dropping and will be keeping her until at least tomorrow. Thank you for all your support thus far! Roo is being a trooper

Update 8/16/24
Roo came home last night! She is in much better spirits than expected. The blood transfusion brought her RBC count from 20 back up to 33 and her blood pressure which was low has returned to normal. She still has a lot of fluid in her abdomen so we need to monitor that and her eating, drinking, litter box use. We will need to follow up with the vet to check her vitals and get a follow up ultrasound to make sure her organs look good and the fluid is going away. She's not quite out of the woods but she's through the worst for sure. Thank you again for all continued support and contributions. Still waiting to hear if the meds are covered by insurance so if not this money will be that much more appreciated.

Below is Roo this morning:

Update 8/19/24
One week since she was hospitalized. She has lost 25% of her body weight since she's gotten sick so getting her to eat is a large focus.
Thanks to a group we were recommended on Facebook, we realized she needed steroids and the injectable form of her meds not the pills we had gotten. We were able to get both to her in time and she's eating and moving around again. She is having trouble walking likely due to muscle loss but she has not lost her spirit!

I have increased the goal given that the injectable form of her medication costs $80 per vial and one vial only lasts a couple days. It is however a brand new treatment not available months ago and is showing that it works!

Thankful to all who have helped with donations/prayers/sharing this link.

You are Roo's guardian angels.

God Bless,
Marnie

Update:
8/22/24
Monday Roo had an appointment to get some antibiotics for UT issues. She has been losing weight because the fluid in her belly has started to reabsorb/leave the body so she is currently 5.2lb and RAVENOUS. She is getting more curious again but is having issues with her back legs we will need to assess at a later point. Current focus is weight gain and she will be going to the vet for bloodwork tonight to make sure her red blood cell count is still good since she had a blood transfusion. We are still concerned about her Anemia as her gums are quite pale. 2 weeks from now she will also need an ultrasound to make sure the organs are okay from the internal inflammation and pressure from the abdominal fluid.

All physical things aside, Roo has been the sweetest patient while Brett and I give injections everyday as well as a topical, a pill, and an oral liquid medication.

She has officially maxed her insurance so all continued support is much needed and appreciated. Thank you so much for your kindness and generocity in helping this little kitten get better!

Roo is doing great thanks to her FIP medication. She has developed a limp that we need to get to the bottom of but her personality is coming back and she's gaining weight. We have an ultrasound on Tuesday and I will update after that!
