UPDATE:Nov 22/25
Mark recently was admitted to PMH in Toronto on Nov 9 in preparation for his stem cell transplant. On Nov 10 he received a high dose chemotherapy treatment and on Nov 11 had his stem cell transplant. On Nov 12 he was transferred to RVH in Barrie for isolation and follow up care. As of Nov 13 and onwards Mark tires easily has next to no appetite, always being nauseous. Since being at RVH his BP and potassium levels have dropped and is feverish most days. He has lost 50lbs. He’s gone from 230lbs to 180lbs since earlier this year. He has lost lots of muscle mass and looking pretty thin. He has had a blood transfusion and currently on a potassium and magnesium drip. He can’t quite shake the fever he is experiencing but he is determined to ride it out so he can be home with his family. Please consider donating to this campaign as they need your help during this very difficult time. Thank you for your support. Please share as well.
Thank you,
Teresa
UPDATE: Aug 28/25
Mark will return to the oncology clinic and resume treatment at the RVH (Barrie) When the doctor feels his progress is going well the oncology team will start the transplant process. It involves wiping out his immunity and then they will do the procedure but not until he is well enough to deal with it.
He has continued to lose weight.
The doctor appointment with the neurologist will tell us about his back and any micro fractures he may have and then if they require surgery.
So we will know more after all of his appointments in the next couple weeks. Please if you can donate and/or share it will be greatly needed and appreciated. All funds donated will go directly towards Marks care.
UPDATE: Aug 2/25
Mark has been to PMH in Toronto for a consultation. In the next few weeks to months, he will be in and out of the hospital for treatment. Most treatments will be at the PMH. Some treatments will require Mark to stay overnight. For now he will be off his Chemo treatment and will receive injections to improve the quality of his bone marrow. Doctors will then harvest his stem cells for stem cell treatment at a later date to reduce his symptoms and slow the progression of the disease and in hopes put him into remission. Mark has already experienced micro fractures in his spine and may require surgery. Please if you can help in anyway it is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
Hi my name is Teresa Wood, and I truly appreciate you taking the time to read. I am raising funds on behalf of my sister Valerie and her partner Mark. They have been together for 38 years. Mark who is 65 years, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (an incurable blood cancer), in April of this year. Over the past week he has been in and out of the hospital, struggling to walk and manage his pain. He has lost 20 lbs since his diagnosis. His health has declined quickly and now requires a nurse to come to his home to give him his IV fluids , and potentially PSW support going forward. He is the sole driver for his family who rely on him daily as he can no longer drive. Valerie has mobility restrictions herself as a result of a cancer that she has dealt with in the past decade and wouldn’t be able to deal with all the transportation involved with Marks upcoming care. They have two young children and Val is struggling with juggling the care and attention between the children and her partner. Funds raised will go towards Marks care, his needs with transportation such as taxis/Ubers to and from his local hospital in Barrie, to and from the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto to receive stem cell treatment. Funds will also cover his in home care along with other medical expenses. I express my gratitude and appreciation for any donations. Thank you for your time and support.
Please share with your family and friends. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
With gratitude
Teresa
